Scholarships
I. Chinese Government Scholarship
In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities.
For Undergraduate Program Applicant
SUS does not accept applications for Chinese Government Scholarship directly.

For Graduate Program Applicant
We have the University Postgraduate Program which is established by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China (hereinafter referred to as MOE) aiming to provide supports to Chinese High Education Institutions (HEIs) in building high level universities, and promote Chinese higher education brand on an international basis.
As one of the Chinese HEIs under this program, SUS is responsible for the recruitment of international students. China Scholarship Council entrusted by the MOE, holds the responsibility of the verification, approval and the routine management of the program.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
Ø be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;
Ø be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;
Ø be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs.
Ø must not be a student of Chinese university at the time of application (except for those who graduated from Chinese university for one year or longer).
Ø should not be holding any other scholarship provided by Chinese government.
How to Apply
You need to sign in and apply online (http://laihua.csc.edu.cn, the organization code of SUS is 10277. The applicants must fill in and provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely (in duplicates).

The SUS Application Form for International Students (check Download on our website) with a photograph affixed.
One photocopy of your valid passport.
A copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form(check Download on our website) . One photocopy of your diploma and degree certificate (a notarized Chinese or English translation is demanded if the original version is in other languages). For those who are about to graduate, a certification of expected graduation is also acceptable).
One photocopy of your transcript of academic records during your Master’s study (a notarized Chinese or English translation is demanded if the original version is in other languages).
One photocopy of your HSK certificate or BCT certificate (if you have any).
Study plan or research proposal (check Download on our website), written in Chinese or English, which includes your education and work experiences, research results and a study plan.
Two Recommendation letters (check Download on our website) in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors.
NOTE: All the documents should be bound together on top left corner. You should submit TWO sets of bound documents to our university by posting or handing in during January 1 to March 31 every year. A valid e-mail address is required for good contact. The application materials will not be returned in any case.

II. Shanghai Government Scholarship
In order to further the development of international student education and attract more outstanding international students to study in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission established the Shanghai Government Scholarships (SGS) for International Students in 2005. It offers funds to prospective international students to pursue a bachelor’s degree or higher at institutions of higher education in Shanghai.
The scholarship is divided into three categories: Class A, Class B and Class C. Class A (Full Scholarship) offers funds to prospective students applying for graduate programs in Shanghai. It includes tuition, living expenses and Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students in China. Class B (Partial Scholarship) funds prospective students applying to pursue a bachelor’s degree or higher in Shanghai. The scholarship covers tuition. Class C (Excellent Student Award) aims to offer support to excellent international students currently pursuing studies at institutions of higher education in Shanghai. Recipients receive a one-off payment during the academic year.
Eligibility

Ø have obtained a master’s degree and be under the age of40; applicants for master’s studies should have obtained a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
Ø should not be holding any other scholarship provided by Chinese government.
